Glasgow in a Day: Top Things to Do

Only got a day in Glasgow? This is the guide for you. From iconic sights to hidden gems and local bites, here’s how to spend 24hrs in Glasgow like a local.

Top Tips

We could pretend you’ll see all of Glasgow in a day, but let’s be honest - this city’s got layers. The good kind. It’s loud in some places, quiet in others, full of stories, street art, sourdough, and the occasional bit of chaos (in the best way). If it’s your first time, this one’s for you.

plan to get lost. Wander without an agenda. That’s when you find the perfect pint or the weirdly perfect second-hand jacket in a West End vintage shop. Glasgow’s not polished - and that’s kind of the point.

Eat like you live here. Skip the usual suspects and head where the locals actually go - pasta at Eusebi’s, natural wine at MARGO, a buttery morning roll from Riverhill, or doughnuts from Tantrum (no judgement if you get two).

let Glasgow surprise you. It’s the conversation with a stranger, the late-night live music, the mural at the end of the alley. It’s not always love at first sight - but give it a day, and it’ll charm the socks off you.

Top sites to see

Gallery of Modern Art - Yes that’s a traffic cone on the Duke’s head and no, it’s not coming down any time soon. It’s part of the skyline at this point. Inside, you’ll find ever-changing exhibitions that are bold, weird, brilliant — and sometimes a bit daft (in the best way). The building? Stunning. The energy? Pure Glasgow.

Merchant City - Once all about shipping and silk merchants, now it’s where the city goes to sip natural wine, browse boutique shops, and look effortlessly cool doing it. The buildings are old, the vibes are new, and the people-watching is top-tier.

Glasgow Cathedral & The Necropolis - Perched high above the city, this iconic landmark is a must-see. Take in the panoramic views and centuries of Scottish history.

take it all in...

The Barras Market - Rough round the edges but full of character. The Barras is where Glasgow gets loud, cheeky, and brilliant. One minute you’re digging through vintage vinyl, the next you’re eating a toastie in a shipping container with a side of live music.

Finneston - Go for a wander through finneston and stop off for a drink or some food, step into the street behind for some quirky finds on your way to Kelvingrove.

Kelvingrove Museum & Park - Inside it’s a glorious mix of the serious and the strange - from Rembrandt to taxidermy, a floating Spitfire to local legends. Then you step outside into the park and it’s locals on picnic rugs, joggers doing laps, and pals catching up over cans on the hill.

The Cloisters at Glasgow Uni –Alright Potterheads - this one’s for you. The cloisters (or “the bit that looks like Hogwarts”) are tucked between the grand old buildings of Glasgow Uni, and they’re pure magic. Arches, shadowy stone corridors, echoey footsteps — it’s one of the city’s most photogenic spots. Even if you’re not here for the ‘gram, it’s worth the wander. The whole campus is stunning and you get a good view of the city.

The Botanic Gardens - Just down the road, the Botanics are the West End’s garden. Inside the glasshouses it’s all tropical heat, towering palms and Victorian drama — perfect when the weather’s doing that Glasgow thing. Outside, it’s winding paths, peaceful benches and locals walking their dogs.

Our favourite food spots

One of the best ways to get to know Glasgow? Through its food. From lively sharing plates to laid-back dinners and late-night takeaways, the city knows how to feed you well. Here's a few of our go-to spots:

The Ox and Finch - This Finnieston favourite serves up incredible small plates and cocktails. Book ahead - locals love it for good reason.

The Buttery - A Glasgow institution reimagined. Old-school hospitality meets elevated Scottish cuisine in it's richly atmospheric dining room. A little bit classic, a little bit special.

The butterfly and the pig  - a little quirky, a little nostalgic - it's a great shout for some comfort food. It's mismatched teacups, handwritten menus, and hearty food served with a wink, this place feels like visiting your eccentric aunt - if she happened to be a brilliant cook.

Paesano - Staying in? Honestly, same. Grab a pizza from Paesano and kick back. It's a perfect no-effort dinner.
